Artist's Statement:
"This is a large assemblage inspired by a very old piece of fabric found in my Great Aunt's attic. It is a lovely old tapestry design, very subtle in color because of its age. It is the background to this piece.
Layered atop are:
An antique marbled book cover topped with a page from a vintage book and coated in beeswax with three broken vintage porcelain dolls dug up behind a doll factory in Germany. To the right is a mat board attached with copper tacks, coated with modeling paste, impressed with various stamps and painted a pale turquoise with a bit of a metallic sheen. There are three vintage paper and canvas pieces on top of the mat board, also coated with beeswax. The vintage paper comes from a very old German bible. On top of that is a bleached piece of driftwood wrapped with rusty wire. To the right of that is a broken vintage pocket watch set to the eleventh hour.
Below is a corrugated cardboard piece painted black and topped with a handmade polymer clay tile. Under this is a piece of wire grid with obvious blue/black nails tacked throughout. Under the grid is a copy of an 1800's letter and beneath the letter is textured paper treated with a rust paint. The final piece is a white ceramic tile.
All of these three dimensional pieces are securely mounted on an antique board also from my Great Aunt's attic. It has a lovely soft patina and its original hanger on the back. There are three drilled holes in the lower right corner. "
